My journey in life has been like many others…a lot of ups and downs.
I grew up in a loving home. My parents always supported my brother and I and always made sure we had everything we needed. They never went to or finished college out of high school, so they wanted to make sure that we were given the opportunity to do so. So that’s what I did…I went off to college and got a degree in Elementary Education. And went off to be a teacher.
I was always really good with money, saving it (or hoarding it depending on how you look at it) making sure I never spent anymore than I had. As a teacher, you don’t make very much, but I always made sure I wasn’t spending money just to spend it.
After teaching a year in OK, I decided to move to TX with my family. We moved after the school year started, so getting a full time teaching job wasn’t happening. I ended up getting a job with my mom at the local YMCA…and a job at Starbucks, Zales, and subbing in 2 different school districts. I was BUSY but eventually I was able to get a long-term sub position for the last couple months of school, which turned into a full time teaching position.
The school district I was in was VERY highly sought after and had really high expectations for students and teachers. Our school was one of the smaller ones in the district, but I liked that.
In my 7 years while at that school, I went from just teaching a classroom of students, to leading the team of 3, to having student teachers of my own and mentoring other first year teachers, to basically working like the Assistant Principal while also teaching 60+ students Math all day long. After school and in my “spare time”, I was in charge of 7 different committees and various school projects (including writing the goals for every grade level K-5 in every subject area), teaching 4th grade students, mentoring first year teachers, tutoring before and after school, going to school in the evenings to get my Master’s in Education Administration, and in the process of buying a house. Needless to say, I was exhausted. Totally and completely burnt out…and my body was telling me ENOUGH was ENOUGH!
In the Summer of 2011, I just got back from Uganda on missions and went to my doctor….who sent me to another doctor for further blood work, who sent me to an Endocrinologist. Apparently I had something that wasn’t even in my family, but like I said, my body was telling me it was DONE.
It was apparent to me that I needed to slow down and take a breather in life. We’d already started school and I wasn’t going to quit in the middle, so I finished out the year. I had NO idea what I was going to do, but I knew I needed something a little slower and less stressful.
Enter new opportunity…
I began working with my dad (who was the CFO) at a local non-profit as a Digital Media Coordinator. It was definitely SLOWER than I had been used to. Actually a LOT slower than I was used to, but wasn’t as stressful or overloaded. I started working nights at Starbucks again to earn extra money. Non-profits don’t exactly pay a whole lot. And I was still paying off credit cards, school loans, and my mortgage.
If you haven’t gotten it to this point, I’m a VERY hard and dedicated worker. I put my ALL into everything I do, which is probably why my body was revolting against me. I don’t quit and I rarely rest.
My boss at Starbucks loved me WAY too much…and scheduled me almost EVERY night and weekend. I did this for awhile (cuz there were people leaving and he just needed to find replacements). But again, my body and I had FINALLY had too much. So I quit.
I was then approach about this idea of working as a Practice Manager for a Financial business downtown Dallas. The guy I’d be working for was the President of the Board for the nonprofit I was working for and it sounded like a great opportunity. So I went for it.
It was great…for the first few weeks. But it seemed after a few weeks, the “real” coworkers came out and I quickly saw I was going to hate it.
That’s when I went searching.
I realized I’d always be working for someone else if I didn’t do something. I’d be building someone ELSE’S dream and not mine. That the “bosses” would always control me and my time. That I was so undervalued and underappreciated working for others. I knew I was worth more than this. More than only working to pay the bills day after day for the next 40-50 years. I knew I was meant for something BIGGER! So I prayed and PLEADED with God to get me out of this situation. And that’s when He answered with a simple text.
I reached out to a former coworker who was doing a different business about the opportunity and she immediately told me to talk to her daughter. We set up a phone call right after the new year and I was BLOWN away. I immediately saw the chance to build massive residual income, all while helping and serving people. That throughout this process and changing MY life, I’d be able to help thousands, if not millions, across the world from a health and financial standpoint. Like WHAT? Are you kidding me?! SOLD!
I enrolled that same night, January 7th, in my home company. Having been able to be mentored by some of the industries top earners, as well as learning from the many mistakes first time network marketers and direct sellers make, I’ve built the traditional or “old school” way, prospecting family and friends, cold contacting, and pretty much hounding anyone within three feet of me that would listen.
Feeling like it just wasn’t building fast enough, I began to become a student of the industry attending workshops, reading, and listening to audios. That’s when I discovered “Attraction Marketing” and the concept of bringing value to the marketplace and having people actively seek me out in return. What a concept right? But guess what…IT WORKED! I have merged the worlds of traditional and online marketing, having people actively seek me out creating more time freedom for me to enjoy life.
