How to Attract More Prospects to You with Your Facebook Posts
I imagine you are part of the 2 Billion people now using Facebook monthly.
And if you’re like the typical user, you post about your family, a funny video you saw, something inspirational, and maybe even share what you’re eating.
All your friends comment on your post and throw you “likes” (or now “loves”, “laughs”, or maybe even a “WOW”) like candy!
You are on top of the world and are so excited! You think, “now is the perfect time!” So you post about your products or opportunity, maybe even a “sale” that you are having, and you get…
Everyone has seemed to vanish.
Then you think, “maybe the time you posted was wrong”! So you post again at a different time, maybe at night after dinner, because you know people will be on then, right!?
SO frustrating, right?
But here’s the cool thing…there is a way to get more people to reach out to YOU about your business when you post. My friend Julie Burke is proof of this. She shared how she built a team of over 8,200 distributors using this system on Facebook, which you can learn how to do the same here.
Before I tell you how you can use your Facebook posts to attract more people, let’s look at what’s wrong with what you’re doing in the first place.
Why do people use Facebook?
Facebook is a social playground.
Most users, and the purpose of Facebook, is to be able to stay connected with others. Family members separated by distance can keep up with each other’s day-to-day activities. Friends from childhood or college can see how each other’s families are growing. We can basically share what is going on in our lives, something funny, sad, or even what we ate.
People do not want to go to Facebook to try to be “sold” to.
In fact, NO one wants to be sold to.
Sure there are many companies using Facebook for their business, and there are separate pages for this, but they aren’t running “ads” or selling all the time.
People don’t hop on Facebook to see your posts or “ads” for a “ground floor” opportunity or the next new diet pill.
They can go watch TV for that.
When you post about your products and “opportunity” or the “sale” you are having, your friends see this as an “ad” and 99% of them may not even be interested in whatever you are offering!
It’s like “selling ice to an Eskimo“!
But think about it for a second from their perspective.
If you were the ONLY one of their friends that was doing this, they might be ok with it.
But chances are, they have TONS of friends that are on Facebook doing the same thing you’re doing.
So scroll, scroll, scroll right past your post they go.
They’ve learned to tune it out.
So you get nothing on your business posts.
(That is unless your teammates or your upline have seen it, and then of course they’re going to support you and like it, and maybe even comment on it! So there’s that!)
But that is not going to grow your business!
You want people who are interested in growing a business, not people already in your business.
While we’re on the subject…
Posting things like “Join my team!”, “Get in on the ground floor opportunity…the timing has never been better”, “I only need one more to join me this month!” or “We’re #1 in xyz! Come join us!” are not helpful either.
This is an “ad” language.
People don’t care…there is nothing in it for them when they see this.
And it just looks desperate.
But above all, once you’ve mentioned your company or your product, game over. You’ll lose them. They have a friend named “Google” and I promise you, they’ll ask them about you.
And not everything he has to say will be good.
(HINT: They will respond better when you give them the benefits they will gain from working with you. Focus on that.) 😉
What DO People Want to See on Facebook?
They want to see YOU!
You being authentic. You being real. You sharing your life…the ups and downs.
Your social media presence should be an extension of you and you building relationships with people.
You have to make yourself stand out from the crowd.
So engage in conversation and share life experiences.
People are on Facebook to be social, not to buy from you.
Remember…friends first, business will follow.
They may end up buying from you eventually, but build that relationship first. They will stick with you longer if you build that relationship.
And if you think that there are a shortage of people to talk to…
Facebook now has:
- 2 Billion users monthly
- 1.15 Billion active users a day, just on mobile
- 1.32 Billion overall active users a day
- 5 new profiles are created every second
So don’t tell me there isn’t anyone to talk to! 🙂
Before someone buys something from you, you want them to know, like, and trust you. People do business with people and money comes from people.
So be you, be real, be authentic, and even be vulnerable!
So What DO I Post About?
When it comes to posting, remember to not “air your dirty laundry”. After all, you are building a business and you want to keep things positive.
I know things are not all “rainbows and butterflies.” We need to share reality and struggles. It keeps us “real” and helps bring others along on our journey. But if you are doom and gloom, you’ll send people packing.
Ask yourself, “how can I add value to someone else’s life today?”
Be inspirational to help them make a change. Offer solutions to their problems. Help them discover things they may not know. Unlock possibilities they may not even know existed. Show your achievements and struggles. A day in the life of Y-O-U!
Bottom line…bring meaning and purpose to the lives of others and show them you’re human.
This brings more people into your life and they start buying into you.
Especially if you are vulnerable with them!
It may be difficult to share some fears you have, but this is the fastest way to connect with others. And like my mentor says, “weigh your ego with your bank account and see which one weighs more!” 🙂
If your bank account is pretty empty because you have a big ego, kick the ego to the curb and watch your bank account grow.
Some examples on what to post…
- Curiosity posts: Create curiosity that people can’t help to reach out to you. This could be as simple as “I’m SO excited I just lost 5 inches, all without having to kill myself at the gym!” Everyone who comments, private message them so you don’t give away the secret.
- Business posts: I’m not talking about the “Join me now” kind, but “this is what my business is allowing me to do”. Have you been able to quit your job? Travel more? Buy that new car? SHOW people through lifestyle what it’s allowing you to do and paint the picture for them. Win an award? Share it! But again, don’t mention the company.
- Ask questions: These can be simple with yes or no answers and just fun! Where is your next vacation spot? What’s your favorite “go-to” meal? What made you smile today? Would you rather go to a warm beach or cold mountain? Make it fun!
- Congratulate team members or testimonials: Again, not saying company name, but telling a story of a team member. Did they hit a new milestone? Were they able to quit their job? Even if it’s not someone on your team. If they are just someone in your company, that’s fine.
Can you see how these types of posts would start to attract people to you and asking you about your products and your business?? Which is SO much easier than chasing them right?!
You can simply do a mix of these posts about 2-3 times per day or 14 a week. Stick to more lifestyle using curiosity and then a few sprinkled in about business.
I LOVE taking selfies with me at the lake or on the beach, or even just enjoying myself at a nice lunch somewhere out and about and sharing that with the caption “my office view today.”
